POLICY WIRE — Hong Kong — A Burmese python was spotted along a busy road in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay shopping district on Sunday evening, sparking viral attention on social media. The snake, estimated to be between two to three meters long, was captured on camera by a jogger near Jardine Noonday Gun around 11pm.

In the video, the reptile is seen slithering across a section of pavement along Victoria. An expert suggested that the recent heavy rainfall may have driven wild animals into urban areas. “Heavy rain over recent weeks may have forced wild animals into urban areas,” the expert noted.

The sighting has raised concerns about the interaction between urban environments — and wildlife. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the origin of the python and to assess any potential risks to public safety.
