POLICY WIRE — Athens, Greece — Two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while battling wildfires west of Athens on Sunday, according to Greek broadcaster ERT. Footage showed one aircraft crashing to the ground. The Greek fire department confirmed the recovery of all four crew members, with two found unconscious.
A large-scale search — and rescue operation was launched near the village of Psatha. Nearly 500 firefighters — and 23 aircraft are engaged in the ongoing efforts to contain the fires.
