POLICY WIRE — City, Country — Russian air strikes across Ukraine have resulted in at least 13 fatalities on Thursday, including one in the capital, Kyiv, and extended as far west as Lviv, prompting neighboring Poland to scramble fighter jets to secure its airspace.

The attacks occurred as President Volodymyr Zelensky returned from the United States, where he reported that President Donald Trump had agreed to provide Ukraine with licenses for Patriot missiles.

Air raid alerts were issued across most regions of Ukraine. A Reuters witness reported hearing explosions. The strikes have caused significant alarm — and resulted in casualties.
