The conservative 51-year-old secured victory in June’s run-off election by fewer than 50,000 votes. She will serve until 2031. Fujimori, the daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori who’s currently imprisoned for human rights abuses, aims to stabilize the country’s turbulent political landscape.

Over the past decade, Peru has seen frequent changes in leadership, with only three presidents completing their terms. Fujimori’s presidency marks the ninth in ten years, reflecting the nation’s ongoing political volatility.
