POLICY WIRE — Chandler, Arizona — A large bee swarm disrupted operations at an Intel manufacturing site in Chandler, Arizona, on Monday, resulting in three people being hospitalized and ten others receiving medical attention.

Emergency services were called to the Ocotillo campus early Monday after reports of a person with numerous bee stings and multiple employees affected by the swarm. First responders treated ten individuals on-site, with three transported to hospitals in stable condition.

The cause of the bee disturbance remains unknown. Intel, which began in the late 1960s and pioneered the first microprocessor, continues to expand its global footprint, including significant operations in Arizona, where it is considered a key manufacturing hub. In March 2021, the company announced plans for two new chip factories in the area, one of which is already operational.
