Police Commissioner Richard Worley described the conflict as a senseless exchange between two individuals who opened fire on each other. He said the girl, who was likely watching a football game, was caught in the crossfire. The adult victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including a 25-year-old woman and two men aged 23 and 28, who were with the girl at the time.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott condemned the violence, calling the perpetrators cowards. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a child due to what he called an avoidable dispute. Meanwhile, Coach Mark Brown of the Charm City Buccaneers youth football league stated that the event was not linked to their activities, noting that the league has operated without such issues for 29 years.
